DA in N West gives provincial govt negative assessment

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Political analyst from North West University Professor Andre Duvenhage says strategic priorities and competent personnel from both provincial and local government are needed to improve service delivery in this province.

This follows the Democratic Alliance in the North West releasing its annual score card rating for the performance of the provincial government.

The report by the DA scores the ANC-led provincial government on its performance for the year.

The DA rated the provincial government between symbol D and F in the current financial year 2016/17.

The party says the governing party in the province failed to address issues of service delivery.

Professor Duvenhage From the North West University says, “We cannot continue appointing people who do not have the necessary skills, taking that particular job forward and in a general sense, I believe support for the farming community could assist with better agriculture and that will improve the conditions of many people, maybe even job creations in that line.”

The report was released recently by the DA in the North West showing the ANC-led government in the province receives negative assessment.

According to the score cards only the Department of Finance and Office of the Speaker in the Legislature received symbol D which is the better symbol compared to other departments.

They say this is due to lack of accountability by the executive council.

The party says the North West Province has this year received the worst audit report with 3.6 million on irregular expenditure in the 2016/2017 financial year.

According to the Auditor General’s report, lack of accountability and commitment towards clean administration is the key factor for the downfall characterised in the financial crisis of the province.

DA leader in North West province Joe McGluwa says, Premier Supra Mahumapelo and his cabinet must account on their performance.”

“He must take full responsibility of what has transpired as far as service delivery is concerned. Therefore, as the party we felt that we have no alternative choice but to award the premier of this province with a mampara, award a trophy that we feel it will be a floating trophy for every year’s performance for the Premier and his MECs.”

Some of the residents the SABC spoke to also shared the same sentiments with opposition party citing poor service delivery rendered by the provincial government.

One resident says, “I am giving government an F because we are struggling with water and the water is dirty.”

However, ANC Secretary in North West, Dakota Legoete, refuted allegations levelled against the governing party.

As the public is seemingly getting tired of poor service delivery, only time will tell if government’s efforts in assisting municipalities will bear positive results.
