The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape says its concerned about the slow administration of the COVID-19 vaccine in the province.

Provincial Health spokesperson Wendy Kaizer-Philander says only 58% of the 50-years and older age group has been fully vaccinated.

The province has administered more than three-million vaccine doses so far.

Kaizer-Philander says urgent measures need to be taken to address vaccine hesitancy.

“I have engaged with officials of the Provincial Parliament to hold mini public hearings in those affected communities to address the slow uptake of vaccines amongst vulnerable citizens. As previously indicated, the purpose of these hearings is to hold face-to-face engagements regarding the fears that lead to vaccine hesitancy that withhold others from receiving their jabs and to address the reasons why residents are reluctant to receive their jabs.”
