DA in Free State lays fraud charges against Magashule

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Democratic Alliance has laid fraud and corruption charges against former Free State Premier and ANC secretary general Ace Magashule.

The allegations relate to a multimillion housing project at Volgelfontein in Bethlehem in the eastern Free State.

Flouting tender processes to benefit a Chinese Company, Unital Holdings, that is what the DA alleges that Magashule did.

Magashule’s daughter has a 30% stake in the company. The project involved the building of 1500 RDP houses worth R150 million.

The DA claims that Unital pocketed R70 million from the project.

DA’s Patricia Kopane says: “It’s a shame what we found at the houses, there is no water, electricity and roofs are leaking. We opened a case against Ntate Magashule because he allegedly ensured his daughter benefited from the project.”

The DA alleges an incomplete project was handed over to the local municipality.

And that the provincial Human Settlements Department had not assessed its progress.

Magashule could not immediately be reached for comment.
