The Democratic Alliance (DA) has dismissed allegations of mass resignations of employees in the uMngeni Local Municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands. This is the first municipality won by DA in the province.

DA’s uMngeni municipality mayor-elect, Chris Pappas says he had double-checked the allegations with the municipality officials. He says these allegations are false.

“The 30 resignations, I’ve checked with the officials. Obviously, we did not want to come in there because of the havoc, it is just rumoured. There are a couple of infographics doing the rounds. I suspect there is either staff that either got nervous or got something to hide or otherwise the ANC in the region being are sour losers, but definitely not, tourism and agriculture are two big main stakes for our economy we invest heavily in both.”

Meanwhile, the incoming deputy mayor of this municipality, Sandile Mnikathi says part of their priorities is to ensure their municipality is financially stable.
