DA disassociates from EFF threats to SONA

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Official opposition party in Parliament, the Democratic Alliance (DA), has disassociated itself from the call made by EFF leader Julius Malema to force President Jacob Zuma to answer oral question before his forth-coming State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Speaking during his facts finding mission and tour at Leratong hospice in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, DA parliament leader Mmusi Maimane says placing the Nkandla saga and relegating other relevant social issues such as crime, health, employment and education to the background is not what his party is for in Parliament.

Maimane says the DA wants Zuma to present his State of the Nation Address uninterrupted and later on he will be called to answer for all the allegations including that of corruption.

“ Nkandla is but one issue in South Africa, is not the only issue. There are issues of load-shedding, there are issues of South Africans not able to find work, there are issues of health care and the deteriorating nature some of the situation that we face. And the fact that South Africans face difficulties around crime and the issues of drugs, we are saying that when we talk for the people and we represent them in Parliament we need to be able to express all of these issues. And therefore I would implore the President that when you talk at the SONA that we broaden the issues and we discuss them at full length,” says Maimane.
