The Democratic Alliance (DA) has demanded a probe into the running of Setsoto Local Municipality in Ficksburg, east of the Free State. This comes after the party failed in its bid to force the Municipality Executive Mayor Nthateng Maoke to step down through a motion of no confidence.
African National Congress (ANC) defeated the motion with 18 votes against the opposition’s 12 votes. In its motion the DA was supported by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Freedom Front Plus and civic movement-United Front of Civics.
DA caucus leader Modise Mokhele says the municipality is on the brink of collapsing.
“We will wish as the DA to have a forensic audit in this municipality starting from 2011; on what is happening with monies at this municipality. Because when you read the Auditor General’s report it says there is no leadership and if there is no leadership the municipality is going to collapse.”
