DA concerned over Govender, Koko reinstatement at Eskom

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has expressed concern at Eskom’s reinstatement of two of its senior executives.

According to a letter from the power utility’s CEO Shaun Maritz, a disciplinary process has cleared Matshela Koko and Prish Govender of any wrongdoing.

Koko will resume his position as Eskom head of generation while Govender has been reinstated as head of group capital.

Allegations against Koko related to him awarding contracts to a company linked to his step daughter.

DA Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises Natasha Mazzone says, “We do know that Mr Koko’s disciplinary hearing can only be described as a farce. We know absolutely nothing about Mr Govender’s hearing. However these two individuals are back at work. This is incredibly concerning as the energy supplier has been shrouded in controversy over the last few months. And what’s most concerning is that Eskom did this in secrete without letting the South African public know.”
