The Democratic Alliance has conceded that there is room for improvement when it comes to the delivery of basic services in the municipalities in which it governs. The party announced plans to ramp up its campaign for the local government elections which are scheduled to take place on the first of next month.
Some of the Western Cape DA leadership accompanied party leader John Steenhuisen for the announcement of the plans at the Cape Town civic centre.
The DA says it’s intensifying its election campaign to reach South Africans in every ward across the country.
“It would be naïve entirely to say to people that we are perfect. We are not perfect and there is room to improve. We want to keep communities safe; we want to ramp up housing in the City of Cape Town. That’s why we are saying to the people of Cape Town that we don’t take your vote for granted. Lend us your vote again and we will be able to showcase what we can do in terms of ramping up delivery,” says DA National Spokesperson, Siviwe Gwarube.
Former Knysna Mayor Mark Willemse, has been endorsed as the mayoral candidate in the Southern Cape town, for the Knysna Independent Movement in the local government elections.
Willemse was part of the DA before parting ways due to a controversial decision to side with the ANC to remove fellow DA member and also former Knysna Mayor, Eleanor-Bouw Spies.
Willemse also served the town as a councillor for Ward 9 and was the Speaker of the Garden Route District Municipality.
The Knysna Independent Movement says it’s confident that Willemse as the mayoral candidate is a representative of the town’s broad constituent base.
