D-day for motorists to renew expired licence disks

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The deadline for motorists to renew any vehicle licence disks that expired between March and May is the end of business on Tuesday.

Motorists were granted a grace period until today to renew their expired discs without penalty during the lockdown.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation says penalties will be issued for late renewal.

Penalties are calculated at 10% of the annual licencing fees per month.

Motorists may also receive a traffic fine of up to R1000 for operating an unlicensed motor vehicle on a public road.

Driver’s licence validity

Meanwhile, the validity of driving licence cards as well as learners’ licences and temporary licences and professional driving permits which expired or expire between the beginning of the lockdown and the 31st of August, are considered valid until the end of January 2021.
