Czech prime minister congratulates Pavel on election as president

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala congratulated retired general Petr Pavel for being elected the country’s new president on Saturday, as Pavel led the vote count against former premier Andrej Babis.

Pavel’s lead was widening as large cities that are his support base reported their results.

He had 56.9% of the vote against 43.1% for Babis with 87.5% of voting districts counted.
