CWU refutes SABC collusion claims

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) is denying allegations that collusion with SABC management could be the reason behind their decision to call off last week’s workers strike.

CWU president Clyde Mervin says that the CWU is not in collision with SABC management and insists that the Communications Workers Union is a union that fights for the rights of workers and therefore will never be in  collision with any company.

“When we gave the notice of 48 hours, the legal team of the SABC wanted to interdict our strike, and through the advice of our legal team we withdrew the notice of the strike because legally it would have been a problem. What we did was go to a meeting with management on the 2nd of November and in that meeting they brought a proposal of 0% again and then they said the following year they will give us the increase,” says Mervin.
