Cwele warns social grant beneficiaries against misinformation

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Post and Telecommunications Minister Siyabonga Cwele warned social grant beneficiaries against allowing anyone to misinform them.

He has encouraged social grant beneficiaries to visit the offices of social security agency Sassa and the Post Office.

Cwele visited some remote villages in the Eastern Cape to explain the new change in the social grant system.

He interacted with beneficiaries and assured them that they’d continue receiving their social grants without any problems. At least 17-million South African benefit from social grants.

Cwele says many social grant recipients are very gullible.

“There are people who go around confusing them, encouraging them just to move away from Sassa cards to other cards only. Those who are receiving through their bank accounts will continue to get their pensions through the banks. The cards we are swapping are those which are called Sassa cards. We are working closely with traditional leaders, councillors and religious workers on the ground.”
