CSIR ready to predict election results on Thursday morning

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is again using polling data on election day to predict the results of the 2019 National and Provincial Elections in South Africa. The organization uses data collected at polling and counting stations to forecast how the elections will turn out.

As South Africans head to the polls on Wednesday, the CSIR is expected to make predictions based on the first few results.

Speaking on Morning Live, Strategic Partnerships Manager at the CSIR, Ndumiso Cingo, says the scientists use early results counted and declared by the IEC to give an indication on how the voting may turn out.

Cingo says their model of predictions starts to stabilise when around 5% to 10% of results are in.

Statistician at the CSIR, Pravesh Debra, says they should be able to start making predictions early on Thursday morning.
