Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday marked the official start of the 2019/20 cricket season which will be the last season of the six franchise system Premier competition.
Gauteng cricket were on the money last season as the Lions won two titles in the CSA Four-Day Challenge and the CSA T20 Challenge while the Titans claimed the Momentum One-Day Cup.
CSA chief executive Thabang Moroe says they are anticipating an even bigger and better year in terms of unearthing more young and talented players for the national team.
Following the conclusion of the South Africa and India T20 series in a draw last week in India, Moroe commended how the young Proteas team performed against a strong Indian side. He says they are pleased to see the team giving a good account of themselves.
Having implemented new structures during the rebuilding stage at CSA and in the Proteas, Moroe says they will not be putting unnecessary pressure on the players and the coaching staff.
With the second instalment of the Mzansi Supper League T20 on its way later this year, Moroe says CSA is anticipating yet another successful tournament.
He adds that if the inaugural season was anything to go by, he is expecting the tournament to produce more young Proteas.
