CSA aims to transform cycling in SA

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The newly appointed acting president of Cycling South Africa (CSA), Zamuxolo ” Yster ” Xatasi already has a plan to elevate cycling on the national sporting platform.

One of his visions is to lobby his executive to organise top cycling events in township areas with the aim of empowering disadvantaged cyclists from these areas.

Transformation and development programs are his top priority. He was elected acting president from his position as vice president after William Newman resigned in February.

He will act in the position until 2020 when a new executive will be elected.

Xatasi says: “Cycling is a serious sport and I want to get the community involved. Young kids in the townships should be exposed to cycling. It’s fun, fast and it’s for everyone. Cycling events should take place everywhere and anywhere no matter if it’s in the suburbs or in the townships.”

Xatasi acknowledges that sponsorship is key to develop and grow cycling and there is a lot of work to be done in this sector for CSA.

He also wants to bring local authorities on board, especially for maintaining roads to facilitate cycling races.

The passion for cycling is already established in non-cycling areas.

Cycling South Africa also plans to host a number of cycling safety programmes nationwide to create an awareness around cyclists.
