The Eastern Cape-based Christian Political Movement will be vying for votes in the upcoming elections. The party launched its manifesto in Mdantsane on Saturday.

A message of hope and change; promising to build a strong economy, fast-track growth to create jobs, root out corruption and prioritise education and skills development.

The CPM wants to create incentives for small businesses to participate in the mainstream economy.

Party leader Brian Lonwabo Mahlathi says the party wants to create functional and profitable businesses.

“We will create functional, sustainable, profitable and professional businesses that will ensure growth in their market share to becoming globally competitive. CPM is bias to creating economically active communities rather than a dependence on social relief.”

Party supporters are hopeful that they’ll make an impact at the polls.

Mahlathi says that CPM wants the government to stay out of what they’ve called “church matters”.

“We are totally against the regulation of the church by government or by CRL Commission. We believe that the church should administrate its own affairs and we find it very unfair that an instance of one person, that all Christians should be painted with the same brush. We see that as an attack to the church.”

The CPM will appear on both the provincial and national ballot.
