The Health Ministry is edging closer to government’s target of giving 300 000 people a vaccine every day – with the latest data showing that almost 267 000 people were vaccinated in latest  24-hour reporting period.

This comes as people over the age of 18 flock to vaccination centres across the country.

The vaccines are considered safe and highly effective in preventing serious sickness and even death from COVID-19.

The Health Ministry says more than 11 million vaccines have been administered in total and over five million adults are now fully vaccinated in South Africa.

The latest SA statistics:

South Africa has recorded  10 346 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 708 951.

The national Department of Health has also reported a further 369 COVID-19 related deaths, bringing total fatalities to 79 953 to date.
