The killer of 3-year-old Courtney Pieters has been given two life sentences in the High Court in Cape Town.
Mortimer Saunders was convicted on rape and murder charges few weeks ago.
Courtney’s body was found in Epping Industria in May 2017 after she was been reported missing from her Elsies River home.
Judge Babalwa Mantame handed down the sentence on Tuesday afternoon.
“The accused is sentenced as follows: No.: 1, that is rape – the accused is sentenced to life imprisonment. No.: 2, in respect of murder, the accused is sentenced to life imprisonment. The two sentences are ordered to run consecutively. The accused is declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 104 of Act 60 of 2000.”
