Sibongile Mani has appeared in the East London magistrate's court facing charges of theft.

The case of a 28 year-old Walter Sisulu University student, who erroneously received R14 million from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme last year, has again been postponed to July 24.

Sibongile Mani has appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court facing charges of theft. NPA regional spokesperson, Tsepo Ndwalaza says the case has been postponed for pre-trial issues.

“At this stage, the prosecuting authority still needs to give the docket to the defence so that they can prepare themselves for the pre-trial situation and then the matter will be transferred to the regional court on July 24 so we can proceed with the trial,” says Ndwalaza.

Mani spent over R800 000 of the money she erroneously received from NSFAS. She reportedly spent most of the money on lavish parties, clothes and smartphones.
