Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says mobile classrooms are a temporary solution to overcrowding.

The community of Cosmo City and surrounding areas will soon receive 20 new mobile classrooms to alleviate overcrowding.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi announced this at a community meeting in Cosmo City in the west of Johannesburg.

Lesufi says as much as he hates mobile classrooms, they are an immediate response to overcrowding in the community.

The Department is currently in the process of constructing a new school in the area.

“I hate these things called mobile classrooms. I hate them…. In winter they are cold. In summer they are hot. You can’t have a society that comes from an informal settlement, and go to an informal school. That’s a wrong mentality… but because we went to the stats of this area and surrounding areas, I can confirm today (Sunday) reluctantly so comrades, we’ve said that 20 new mobile classrooms must come here so that they can alleviate pressure that is here. But I want to emphasise the point, it’s a temporary measure.”
