Cosatu call for Bathabile Dlamini’s axing

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Congress of South African Trade Unions, (Cosatu) has urged the African National Congress to release Social Development Minister, Bathabile Dlamini, from her duties.

Cosatu says the commitment by the Inter-Ministerial Committee to expedite the introduction of the an integrated payment system of social grants by the Social Security Agency and the South African Post Office is long overdue.

The labour federation says it expects the post office to take over the entire grant payment process and not just manage biometrics.

“All we can do is appeal to the morals and conscience that Dlamini has been a complete disaster. She has put social grant recipients – 17 million of them – at risk by her behaviour. So, we appeal to the ANC to fire her. The president feels free to call cabinet reshuffles at the drop of a hat at all times of the night, but this minister just doesn’t want to go,” says Cosatu’s Parliamentary Co-ordinator, Matthew Parks.
