Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Congress of the South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has recognised some of its members for long service.
Cosatu’s General-Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi made the announcement at the union’s 11th congress in Midrand, Johannesburg today.
Vavi says: “We want to express our appreciation for the wonderful work that they continue to do for workers in the country.”
Amongst the winners is Cosatu’s spokesperson Patrick Craven, who has served the union for the past 11 years. Vavi described Craven as cool, calm and very measured when dealing with the media. “He has reached his retirement level but we can’t let him go as yet.”
In accepting his award, Craven says: “This award should go to you (delegates) cause when I say things, I say things from you.”
The award ceremony celebrated Cosatu leaders who have been part of the union for more than 10 years. Later on, the congress will give awards to the worst employers.

The congress which started on Monday will conclude tomorrow.
