Cosas wants Agriculture declared a compulsory subject

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) wants Agriculture to be declared a compulsory subject in schools. Cosas president John Macheke says this would prepare the youth in the event that land is transferred back to black people.

He has also advocated for Maths and Science to be taught in indigenous languages.

“We are saying Agriculture must be compulsory from grade 9 to 12. Now as South Africa we are moving to a situation where we are saying people must be returned their old land back. We can’t speak about the land and not be able to prepare young people for that land. As Cosas we took a stance to make sure our people are able to make use of that land.”
