Corruption Watch has called on law enforcement to ensure that the death of Gauteng Health department senior official, Babita Deokaran, is not in vain.

On Thursday, Police Minister Bheki Cele confirmed that two more people were arrested in connection with her murder, taking the total number of arrests to eight. Six of the accused appeared in court on Monday.

Deokaran, who was a Special Investigating Unit witness, was gunned down outside her home on Monday last week.

The SIU investigation relates to the more than R300-million personal protective equipment tender fraud scandal in the department.

Corruption Watch Executive Director, David Lewis has again highlighted the importance of protecting whistleblowers.
