Corruption robs the poor of basic needs

Economist Iraj Abedian has described as tragic the fact that no one has been held responsible in both the political and business arenas for what he terms monumental damage to the economy.

He says some officials in government and executives at auditing firm KPMG and retail giant Steinhoff should have been jailed.

Abedian says corruption is robbing the poorest  South Africans of the most basic needs.

“Look at South Africa, there are five-million families that are poor.  The extent of robbery that has taken place at the expense of the poor, massive betrayal of the poor which complicates their life and also puts the economy on the back-foot. The money is being stolen and that is a real damage to the poor,” says Abedian.
