In recent years there’s been a growing number of so-called corrective rapes. NGO’s working with lesbians say this scourge is becoming more frequent across the country.
Corrective rape is a hate crime in which a person is raped because of their perceived sexual or gender orientation.
The Justice Department recently stated that 64 000 rape cases have been reported in South Africa over the past 13 months.
