Correctional Services records 11 more COVID-19 cases

The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Correctional Services has increased by ten officials and an additional inmate at Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Tshwane, taking the total number of cases to 129.

Eastern Cape has the highest number of cases with 35 officials and 56 inmates. One person has recovered.

In a statement, the Department of Correctional Service noted the increase in the number of cases in the Western Cape.

” Containment and treating is under way in the Western Cape as positive cases continue to increase.”

There are 31 officials and one inmate who have tested positive for the virus in the province, twenty- three of the cases are in Warmbokkeveld.

Gauteng has three cases, one official and two inmates.

” Kgosi Mampuru II is being monitored closely as positive cases involving Remand Detainees are now at two. Mass screening and testing have assisted to this effect as the spread can now be contained and prevented from spreading to other sections.”

Limpopo has the least number of cases in Correctional Services with two officials who have tested positive and one recovery.
