COPE calls on Ramaphosa to act decisively on N West issue

COPE National Chairperson Pakes Dikgetsi has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to act decisively on what is happening in the trouble-torn North West province.

Dikgetsi has warned Ramaphosa not to follow in his predecessor Jacob Zuma’s footsteps.

He was meeting with the party’s provincial leaders to discuss the situation in the North West.

Premier Supra Mahumapelo this week reneged on his commitment to resign following a spate of protests against him in the province and instead took leave of absence.

Dikgetsi says: “With the state of affairs in the North West, the collapse of municipalities, rampant irregular expenditure, corruption and no accountability, that is enough to have Supra Mahumapelo removed.”

Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has confirmed that they are still awaiting a response from the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature regarding the letter they wrote challenging the decision by the ANC PEC to place Mahumapelo on a so called leave of absence.

According to the EFF, the Speaker has been given 72 hours since last Thursday to respond to the letter, failing which their lawyers will file court papers to challenge the appointment.
