Old flag represents worst of SA: Hatang

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Many South Africans have been engaging in a heated debate after the #BlackMonday protest last week where some farmers displayed the old South African flag, an image for the majority that represents the oppressive and violent apartheid era.

Others, however, feel that it is their constitutional right to own and display the flag and that it also depicts “the good old days”.

“Society might say it is inappropriate to show the flag, but we must not take away people’s rights. If we going to start banning, you know that under the communist regimes across the World a 100 million people died and I don’t recommend banning communist signs because it is part of history and we can’t ban history,” says CEO of AfriForum, Kallie Kriel

CEO of the Nelson Mandela foundation, Sello Hatang says the old South African Flag represents the worst of South Africa and it represents things that South Africans don’t want to remember so it is about time that it gets banned.
