The lawyer representing three Lesotho nationals accused of the Cleveland mass shooting incident has reported difficulties in consulting with accused number one while preparing for their formal bail application.
Phumutso Sadiki is representing Michael Metsing, Rammonne Maikutlo and Molebeli Mosia.
The three appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
They are linked to the shooting incident at the Jumpers Informal Settlement that claimed 13 lives last month.
The trio was arrested at the KwaMai-Mai Informal Settlement in Johannesburg.
Sadiki noted that the lack of consultation with accused number one necessitated their request for a postponement to July 17.
“We went to prison to consult. We only managed to consult accused numbers two and three. His name was called, but he didn’t surface. I believe it was logistical from their side. However, this morning we were only partially able to consult, and hence the matter is postponed until the 17th for bail. We will be able to proceed on the 17th.”
