Constitutional law expert Marinus Wiechers dies

Professor Marinus Wiechers, one of South Africa’s best known constitutional law experts and a former vice-chancellor of Unisa has died.

He is credited with writing South Africa’s interim constitution in the early 1990s.

He is known for his comments and analysis on issues like Constitutional Court rulings and the debate over use of the secret ballot in the National Assembly.

Wiechers was also a noted artist who worked with canvas and ceramics.
