Concern over introduction of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in schools

Reading Time: < 1 minute

There is growing concern about the introduction of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in schools from 2021.

Religious organisations, parents and education stakeholders are demanding a broader consultation before permanent changes are made to the Life Orientation curriculum.

Programme Director – Lindiwe Mothemane- says educators will be trained to relay age appropriate information to pupils.

Mothemane says teachers will be given scripted lesson plans for each grade.

“To make sure teachers use an age appropriate content – we focus on the teachers comfort levels, and we then focus on how the teacher should deliver the information to students. During our training we give teachers practice before they go back to the class room. The practice is done in the presence of the Department and various stakeholders.”
