Comrades Marathon down run returns to Kingsmead Stadium

Reading Time: < 1 minute

This year’s Comrades Marathon down run, scheduled for June 11, 2023, will have a different finish as it returns to the Kingsmead Stadium after a seven-year break.

This year’s Down Run will be held for the 48th time between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. The 96th Comrade Marathon will start at 5h30 am at City Hall and in Durban he will finish 12 hours later.

The world-famous 86km ultramarathon will not end at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, as has been the case with the 2018 and 2022 Down Runs.

This is due to the Comrades race date returning to its traditional date of the second Sunday in June from the previously held August date.

The Moses Mabhida Stadium is set to host the 2023 Cosafa Cup at the landmark venue, thereby necessitating the move by Comrades back to Kingsmead Stadium.
