The date for next year’s 95th Comrades Marathon has been finalised. The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) says the Ultimate Human Race will be held on the 13th of June.

Next year’s race will be a downrun starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and finishing at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.

CMA Chairperson Cheryl Winn says: “Following the outcomes of discussions which were held last week between CMA, Athletics South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal Athletics, it has been established that the 2021 comrades marathon has been scheduled to take place on the 13 June which means it will remain unchanged from the second Sunday in June, on which it has been staged the past five years, that is obviously COVID-19 and government restrictions permitting.”

2020 race cancelled due to COVID-19

This year’s Comrades Marathon was cancelled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in South Africa.

It was only the second time in its history that the event had to be cancelled in its 99 year history after it was also cancelled during the Second World War.

The cancellation meant another blow for Athletics South Africa, with other sporting events having been cancelled:
