Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Multiply T20 Community Cup is back and again in 2017 the championships will be held in our capital city of Pretoria where the best community cricket clubs in the country will be gunning for the number one spot.

2017 will be the second installment of the tournament, which forms part of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) vision to make cricket a truly national sport of winners and accessible to all.

The Momentum National Club Championship has almost totally been dominated by tertiary institutions and this new initiative gives Community-based clubs an opportunity to showcase their talent on an equally large stage.

Teams participating in this year’s tournament will be Bobbies Cricket Club (affiliated to VKB Knights), Waterproof Junction Durbanville CC (WSB Cobras), Standard Cricket Club (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Impala Cricket Club (bizhub Highveld Lions), G-Bets Kempton Park Cricket Club (Multiply Titans) and Jendamark United Cricket Club (Warriors).

The past few weeks have been a busy and rigorous period for the teams preparing for these championships and CSA Cricket Services Manager, Edward Khoza is relishing the prospect of seeing some of the talents that will be on show for the weekend.

“The purpose of national tournaments is to develop the sport at amateur level and also give these players an opportunity to test their mettle against the best in the country,” says Khoza.

“The Multiply T20 Community Cup is a perfect platform for community-based clubs to harness their skills and showcase their talent to a wider audience.”

Venues to be used for this year’s championships will be the TUT Oval at the Tshwane University of Technology main campus, Mandela Oval in Hammanskraal and Sinovich Park in Sinoville.

Xoliswa Ndungane, Chief Marketing Officer Multiply, says: “As a sponsor of this championship Multiply is honoured to be able to make a contribution to the development of the game and to support the efforts of community clubs.

“We honour the commitment and all the hard work and dedication that the players have put into honing their skills, and by being fit and match ready. The championship gives additional exposure to more players.

“This creates an added outlet for recognition and the opportunity for talented young players to move up the ranks with the prospect of professional opportunity.”
