Comments made on Overvaal protests disappointing: ANC

The ANC at Sedibeng Municipality in the Vaal has expressed disappointment about the comments made by a white community member on the protests at Hoerskool Overvaal in Vereeniging.

He has posted a video in which he accuses the media of being sensational and suggests that black people know only how to destroy things.

On the video, white community members are seen cleaning up the streets after the protests turned violent this week.

The trouble started after a court ruled that the Afrikaans-medium school did not have space to take in 55 English-speaking learners.

ANC leader in the Sedibeng region, Tlhoriso Mofokeng says this resident is running away from the real issues concerning the school.

He says: “We are very disappointed on the comments or sentiments that the gentleman is saying. Reducing this issue or trying to run away from the truth that our fight is not about the skin colour but it is about the language.”

“It is unfortunate that the gentleman says to them it’s about race, it is not about the language. But if it is not about the language why do they refuse or deny English learners to access the school,” asks Mofokeng.
