Ten women from the Comfort Stockvel group in kaDaantjie outside Mbombela, Mpumalanga, have raised concerns about their investment money banked with Postbank not being paid back.

The women allege that they started banking their stockvel money in 2018, but were recently told by Post Bank that they will not get their money.

The women are asking Post Bank to pay them all the money they have been banking.

“In April this year, we deposited money and in May, when we wanted to make a withdrawal, we were told our bank book is full. They told us we need to fix the book first. We went back for a new book, and that’s when we were told we can’t bank. They told us that the Postbank is now closed, and we cannot access our money anymore,” Lizzy Sambo, Comfort group treasurer.

Postbank Chief Commercial Officer, Thani Cele, says the bank is no longer available at post offices, but that people will still receive their money.

“Post offices are no longer available to Postbank customers if customers are looking to deposit money into their accounts they can utilize ATM from Standard Bank or they can walk into a Standard Bank branch to be assisted. All that is required from the customers is their ID number and an indication of the type of account, which is either S for smart saving, or either savings account, and for transactional accounts as well as a G for group or savings schemes accounts,” explains Cele.
