Researcher at the Electoral Insititute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) Thembelani Mazibuko says it’s hard to say definitively that some of the service delivery protests seen around the country can be attributed to coalition governments at municipalities and metros.
Mazibuko adds this can be used as a scapegoat for the non-delivery of basic services.
Mazibuko says, “In many municipalities, especially municipalities in rural areas, they do not have the technical skills, in finance, in logistics, as well as other operational skills. They cannot attract those kinds of people in order to perform the functions.”
The Democratic Alliance (DA) vowed not to make the same mistakes it did since the last elections if it enters into coalitions.
