Class action law suit against Tiger Brands, Enterprise Foods filed

Reading Time: < 1 minute

An application for a class action law suit against Tiger Brands and Enterprise Foods has been filed at the South Gauteng High Court on Thursday. The lawsuit relates to the Listeriosis outbreak which claimed the lives of 184 people.

The families of the victims want the companies to be held liable for the deaths and injuries and to be compensated for the loss. Tiger Brands had previously said that there was no direct link between their products and the Listeriosis deaths.

The company has recorded a loss of almost R400 million as a result of the recall of their products from the shelves across the country. The law firm could not quantify how much they are suing for and they are hoping that this matter will be settled out of court.

“Our objective is monetary compensation for either the people who are directly affected for medical expenses. We believe their constitutional rights have been violated,”  says Attorney Thamsanqa Malusi of Richard Spoor Inc  Attorneys.
