The Teddy Bear Foundation Director, Dr Shahida Omar has called on society at large to protect children.

Shahida’s call comes in the midst of media reports on raped, missing and killed children around the country.

Recent incidents include that of a ten year-old girl who was found hanging from a tree at her home, and was discovered by a friend.

According to the police, there was no foul play on Ntwisiso Chabalala suicide.

Shahida says, “I think it is not just parent’s responsibility to protect children, it is a whole community based responsibility. It requires a wider intervention, protection of children from all sectors. Yes, parents need to monitor every movement of their children and know where and whom their child will be spending time with. We should make it our business to keep children safe.”

Shahida has also bemoaned the law enforcement saying it let the perpetrators off lightly then they should.
