City Power repairs to affect water supply in Johannesburg

Reading Time: < 1 minute

City Power has announced emergency repairs at the Eikenhof substation, which are expected to impact water supply in and around Johannesburg.

The repairs are necessary following a flashover incident on one of the isolators last night.

Areas that will experience water supply disruptions include Mogale City, Krugersdorp, Carletonville, parts of Brits, and Rustenburg. The repairs prompted Rand Water to suspend water pumping, and there is no alternative supply available during this period.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says, “We will be dismantling the feeder board where the flashover occurred to do the repairs and pressure-test it before attempting to restore. We, unfortunately, anticipate this work to go on until Tuesday evening. Power supply to the residential customers feeding from the Eikenhof substation is fortunately not affected by this.”

“City Power has notified the Rand Water Board and is working closely with its teams to implement solutions to restore supply,” Mangena stated.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to make necessary arrangements due to the temporary disruption in the water supply.
