The City of Joburg coalition government has just announced the resignation of Thapelo Amad as the mayor of the metro.

This comes ahead of a motion of no confidence against him which was scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi made the announcement a short while ago during a press conference attended by coalition members.

Al Jama-ah’s Amad won with 138 votes in January this year, after defeating the ousted mayor and Democratic Alliance (DA) candidate Mpho Phalatse who received 81 votes and Action SA’s Funzi Ngobeni getting 46.
