The coronavirus pandemic may have dampened the festive spirit; but the City of Joburg is confident that people can still have a good time, under safe conditions.
It has launched a Welcome to Joburg campaign in a bid to lure tourists.

The campaign encourages tourists to explore all that the city has to offer, from township cuisine, to cultural and historic sites.
City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayor Committee for Economic Development Lawrence Khoza says: “We went through major economic hardships as a result of COVID-19 and the lockdown. What we are trying to do now is recover. Tourism is a very strategic sector for us. Tourism is a major attraction for this time of the year. For the last few years we have seen major growth in this sector. But we are dealing with a pandemic that none of us could foreseen, so it’s important that we strike a balance between giving people an opportunity to do business; and ensuring our people are safe.”
Joburg is seen not only as the economic hub of the Continent, but also as offering a plethora of cultural, leisure, sporting, fashion and lifestyle activities that is fast making us the leading destination for both leisure and business tourist pic.twitter.com/pZ2moGZpC2
