City of Joburg to host a carnival, New Year’s Eve concert

The City of Joburg will host an annual carnival and New Year’s Eve concert on Sunday.  The two events aim to celebrate the pride of the city and diversity.

The city says various genres of music including Afro-pop, hip-hop and house will be showcased. The events will see an integration of the eclectic rhythms and cosmopolitan mix of the people of Johannesburg.

Live performances will feature The Soil, Nadia Nakai, Bucie, Samthing Soweto, Euphonik, KO, Reason, Ms Cosmo and many more.

Director of event management in the City of Joburg, Bongi Mokaba says the live performances will take place at the Newtown, Johannesburg.

“The mayor is going to be hosting embassies from the US, Poland, Ghana and France. Those ambassadors will be forming part of the parade that the Mayor will be leading up to Mary Fitzgerald Square. We are going to have a total of about 300 plus troops that would be walking in colour, costumes, music, and vibrant basically showing diversity of Johannesburg as a city,” says Mokaba.
