Chippa’s most successful coach returns for a different dance

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As Chippa United celebrates its 10 year anniversary in 2020, their most successful coach in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) so far, Dan “Dance” Malesela will visit the club in a different capacity on Wednesday night.

It will be for the first time that Malesela plays against Chippa United since he left the club 18 months ago when TS Galaxy kick off the defence of their Nedbank Cup title at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

Kick-off at 19:30.

Under Malesela, the Chillie Boyz managed their best finish in league (sixth) and also played in two semi-finals (Ke Yona) and MTN8. He talks about returning back to the Eastern Cape and the reception he’s expecting.

Malesela, the first captain to lift the Bob Save Superbowl Cup (old version of Nedbank Cup) back in 1988 with Orlando Pirates, also made history in 2019 when he led Galaxy to become the first team from lower divisions to lift this trophy beating the mighty Kaizer Chiefs in the final.

Also, under him, Chippa was seen as more of a ball-possession-orientated team, but under the current coach Norman Mapeza they’re a bit different.

In recent seasons, teams that are vying for promotion in the Glad Africa Championship or battling relegation do not take this cup seriously as some feel it will distract their attention.

Galaxy are not doing well currently and are four points above the relegation spot. But Malesela feels that they can use this competition to build some momentum.
