A Chinese delegation is currently in the Northern Cape on a mission to collaborate with the provincial government on small business development, particularly in the diamond industry.

This follows a visit that a provincial delegation undertook to Hebei Geographical University in China, where a memorandum of understanding was signed last year.

The delegation included students from the Kimberley Diamond and Jewellery Incubator and the Kimberley International Diamond and Jewellery Academy.

“Our priority or our main focus is to open the Chinese market to enable our beneficiaries or incubatees to sell their finished products to China. So what will happen is that once the incubatees have been trained, we will then facilitate the process whereby they will form a joint venture companies with small enterprises based in China, through which they will then be able to sell their finished product that they have cut, polished and manufactured to the Chinese market”, says Chairperson of the board of directors at the Kimberley Diamond and Jewellery Incubator, Advocate Itemogeng Steenkamp.
