Child rape kingpin Gerhard Ackerman found guilty

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Child rape kingpin Gerhard Ackerman has been found guilty of rape and possession of child pornography. Judge Ismail Mohamed read out his judgment at the High Court in Johannesburg a short while ago.

Ackerman has been on trial facing over 740 charges for his role in a child sex rape ring. He was charged alongside former Acting Judge Paul Kennedy who died following his arrest.

Judge Mohamed says he rejects the accused version that two of the boys consented to sex with him and therefore has been found guilty of rape.

Mohamed claims that Ackerman sought vulnerable boys on Facebook and other social media sites, trained them to perform sexual acts on paying clients, and profited from the transactions.

Mohamed says Ackerman unlawfully encouraged boys to also perform sexual acts on Paul Kennedy – knowing he was HIV positive.

One of the victims was 14 years old at the time. Over 1 000 pornographic images and videos were retrieved from Ackerman’s laptop while over 600 images were retrieved from his cellphone. These images include photos of toddlers being raped and performing sexual acts on adults.

He was found guilty of possessing child pornography, as well as creating and broadcasting child porn.

Mohamed says Ackerman simply pimped the vulnerable boys for a living.
