Chiefs hope to lift 2019 Nedbank Cup trophy

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Kaizer Chiefs are hoping to please their faithful by lifting the 2019 Nedbank Cup trophy in Durban on Saturday.
They take on National First Division side, TS Galaxy, in the final of the tournament at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Having finished outside the top eight bracket in the 2018-2019 ABSA Premiership, Amakhosi are hoping to salvage their season with some silverware.

A trophy drought, that is now in its fourth year at Kaizer Chiefs, hinges on the head coach Ernst Middendorp and his troops to arrest it.

Chiefs last won some silverware when they lifted the league title back in 2015 under Stuart Baxter.

The only challenge is that in Galaxy, they are meeting an opponent that is a bit of a closed book but Middendorp says they are well prepared for them.

Saturday’s game will also be a tussle between two teams with different philosophies, Galaxy a ball playing team and Chiefs under Middendorp with their pragmatic approach. How’s the German born coach approaching this game.

Middendorp will also be without his assistant Shaun Bartlett on the bench on Saturday evening, the Bafana Bafana legend was sent-off during their final league game against Chippa United last weekend.

Whilst this will be a first cup final for Tim Sukazi’s side, for Chiefs they are experienced in this field and vice-captain Willard Katsande says this could be the difference between the two teams on Saturday. – Report by Velile Mnyandu
