Cheetahs gear up to face strong Griqua side on Saturday

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Toyota Cheetahs’ coach Franco Smith has made one change to his starting line-up ahead of their Currie Cup match against Tafel Lager Griquas at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Darren Adonis will be starting as a full-back replacing Louis Fouce who moves to the bench.

Both sides will want to maintain their winning form, after the Cheetahs beat the Blue Bulls 43-27 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria last week, while the Griquas have two wins under their belt from two tests. Smith says he respects Griquas coach Brent Janse van Rensburg.

The 46-year-old, who is also a former Springboks coach, admits that the team from Kimberley are favourites to win on Saturday.

This will be the Free State side’s second match in the cup and Smith and his boys will want to keep their solid winning formula going. Smith is cautious to not give away any tactical plans.

Team captain Tian Meyer, who hails from Pietermaritzburg and once played for the Griquas back in 2014, had this to say. Report by Tshenolo Meruti
