Chabane was like a son: Zuma

President Jacob Zuma says that late Public Service and Administration Minister Collins Chabane was an asset and his death has left a void that that will be difficult for the country to fill.

He was speaking after visiting the Chabane family in Waterkloof outside Pretoria on Monday.

Zuma was accompanied by Chabane’s deputy Ayanda Dlodlo and other cabinet ministers, including Thulas Nxesi, Edna Molewa and Angie Motshekga.

Minister Chabane died in a car crash on Sunday.

President Zuma says he had a very close relationship with Chabane. “To me he was like a son. I had known him since he was 17. I was part of those who made him join the ANC,” says Zuma.

Zuma says Chabane’s contribution to the struggle will never be forgotten.

“He has contributed to a great extent and we would like to say the country must really join the family in mourning in dignity,” adds Zuma.
